ENERGY TIP: TUNE INTO YOUR ENVIRONMENT
Your external environment is a key factor with respect to your energy reserves and how you feel. Working with your environment can be one way that you choose the amount, type and flow of energy to support you in your life.
The following can assist you with building and maintaining your energy:
1. Sit in a favorite area of your home.
Notice what you like about this area? It is big or is it small? Is it light or is it dark?
Does it feel spacious or is it filled with clutter?
What colors do you see?
Close your eyes. How do you feel?
Notice the positive feelings and anchor them within. Use your breath and imagination to feel as though you are drinking in wonderful energy and releasing it to flow all through you. Use a felt memory of this feeling state as you go about your day. Commit to focusing on remaining in a feel good place as much as possible. When you lose the focus (and you will—it is the nature of the mind, not to worry) simply remember and start again!
2. How can you create more of these feelings throughout the day?
Practice noticing what is positive, beautiful and enlivening for you and make it a point to shift your awareness there as often as you can. Focusing throughout the day on the thoughts and feeling that you DO want in your life is an excellent start to creating something more positive and life enhancing!
3. Now go to an area in your house that you don’t like.
Repeat the process described above. Size up the space it up and identify what you like and don’t like about the space. Notice how you really feel when you are in this space. Consider the changes you can make to reflect the same qualities of the space that you love.
4. Consider ‘collapsing’ negative thoughts and feeling when you notice them as part of your program for health just like other preventative practices you use.
Use your breath, imagery, color, memory triggers, meditation, meridian techniques, gratitude exercises, or “appreciation journaling”---anything that works to release the negative and imbed the positive.
5. What is your work environment like and how do you feel when you are there?
Are you anxious or calm? Is it fast-paced or slow?
Is it light or dark? Is it open and spacious or small and crowded?
What colors do you see? What sounds do you hear? Are they loud or soft?
Does the space nourish your spirit or does it drain your energy?
How can you change what is not pleasing to you in your work environment so it helps you feel good about being there? What small things can you do to bring the environment more in alignment with what you need to focus, concentrate, and relax while working?
Too often we move through our environments forgetting that we are in charge of how we feel and we make the necessary adjustments for our comfort, support and health.
