Energy Tips
July/August 2008
There are many methods that can be used to dissipate negative energy and build new healthy energy. We do not have to use them all! Try gradually exploring new ways of exercising, relaxing and managing stress that not only help your body, but also strengthen your inner reserves and build health. Notice which methods speak to you most strongly and find ways to integrate them into your life with ease. The following methods give a huge return on the time and energy invested!
Meditation
Research has now quite thoroughly documented the health and stress management benefits of meditation. There are many types of meditation. Explore a variety of techniques and see which one speaks to you. You do not have to go to a mountain top nor spend all day in retreat! Twenty minutes a day is all that is required for you to begin to see profound positive changes in your mental, emotional and physical well being.
Tai Chi
Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art that now is best known for its health benefits. There are different types of Tai Chi and you should use your individual preferences and instincts about which form would best suit you. There are active classes in most areas and there are also many books and DVD’s to help educate and instruct.
Breathwork
The simplest thing to do with the breath is shift to a fuller, deeper, easier experience than the short, choppy one that we tend to employ especially when stressed. In addition to this simple shift in habit there are books, DVD’s and classes that teach you specific techniques to work with your breath to discharge old patterns, open up your energy centers and build health.
Yoga
Yoga is a very popular form of exercise, meditation and breath training. There are many classes available as well as books and at home training materials.
Chi Gong
Chi Gong is an ancient form of healing from the Chinese tradition. It is also reportedly the base from which the martial arts evolved. Once again there are many forms as well as sources of information and practice available.
Visualization and Imagery
These two related forms of “meditation” (they are not meditation in the strictest sense) can be very helpful with relaxation, healing, changing unwanted behaviors and creating or attracting positive situations into your life. A well stocked bookstore will have many reference books for you to choose from. Generally these titles are in New Age, Psychology or Personal Growth.
