ENERGY TIP: HOLIDAY DESTRESSING 

 

One of the best things you can do during stress filled times is to withdraw your attention from whatever is bothering you in the moment and place your attention on something that brings a smile to your face and joy to your heart.  This is particularly important as the holidays approach and we gather with family and friends.

Getting together for the holidays can be very stressful, particularly if it is done out of feelings of obligation vs. a true desire to be together.  Although unintended, family gatherings can surface old wounds and unresolved hurts, assumptions and perceptions.

If you find yourself in this situation, do some energy work before getting together.  Open your journal and write 5 statements of appreciation for the people most likely to trigger ... anger, sadness, anxiety, hurt, shame, you name it ... within you.  Dig deep if you have to and really write about qualities that are true, believable and most of all, positive. Even though you may not get along, everyone has special gifts and unique traits.  What are some of these within your family?  Placing your focus on the positive attributes of family members will help you to release the energy that is tied up in past experiences, perceptions and beliefs.
